Wet Floor Interior (Photogravure Study) — Jenny Mason-GunningWet Floor Interior is part of a series of four photogravures exploring industrial spaces through light, reflection, and stillness. The works focus on factory interiors — wet floors, large windows, and the dramatic geometry of light falling across empty space.Using photography as a starting point, the images were translated into photogravure, allowing tone to become the dominant language. Deep blacks, softened greys, and bright lifted highlights create an atmosphere that feels both cinematic and suspended, as though the factory has paused between moments of work.In this piece, the wet floor becomes a reflective surface, doubling the light and drawing the viewer into the space. The composition is minimal yet charged: shadow, structure, and illumination held in quiet tension.Photogravure is uniquely suited to this kind of subject. The process captures subtle tonal transitions and surface depth, producing an image that feels physical as well as photographic — ink held within the plate rather than sitting on top of the paper. This series was an exploration: an experiment in mood, industrial architecture, and the beauty of incidental light. These prints may be quieter than more monumental works, but they hold a particular intimacy — a study of atmosphere, reflection, and the emotional presence of empty interiors.
